Thanks for using Sheetly. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. Sheetly is published by Sheetly ("we", "us"), and we've tried to keep this as short and clear as a privacy policy can honestly be.
Your scans and scores are stored in your account so they follow you between devices. Your practice recordings never leave your phone. There are no ads, no tracking SDKs, and nothing is ever sold. Email us and we'll delete the lot.
Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to anyone who uses the Sheetly app on iOS or Android. The app is intended for general audiences and is not specifically directed at children under 13.
Your account
Sheetly uses an account so your scores follow you across devices. You can sign up with an email address and password, or with Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple. When you create an account we store:
- Your email address
- A profile — display name and an avatar picture, if you choose to add one
- Your plan (free or Sheetly Pro)
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we only receive your email address — and with Apple you can use "Hide My Email". We never see your Google or Apple password.
Your music & practice data
The core of Sheetly is turning photos of sheet music into playable digital scores. To make that work, the following is stored in your cloud library, linked to your account:
- Scan photos — the pictures of sheet music you choose to scan are uploaded over an encrypted connection to our servers for conversion
- Your digital scores — the converted, playable versions of your scans, plus their titles and thumbnails
- Practice sessions — basic stats about your play sessions (which score, when, how long) so the app can show your progress
Scan photos are used only to produce your score and to debug and improve recognition quality. They are never used for advertising and never shared with data brokers.
How scans are processed
When you scan a page, the image is sent to our processing servers (hosted on Google Cloud), where our music-recognition pipeline converts it into a digital score. Parts of that pipeline use AI models to analyse the structure and layout of the page. The output belongs to you and appears in your library.
Ask Sheetly, the coach
Ask Sheetly is the in-app coach that answers questions about the piece you're working on. When you send it a message, your question — together with the relevant details of the score you're asking about — is sent over an encrypted connection to our relay server and on to our AI model provider so an answer can be generated.
- Your chats are saved to your account so you can pick a conversation back up later
- You can delete a conversation in the app at any time
- Coach messages are never used for advertising, and never sold or shared with data brokers
Please don't paste anything sensitive into the coach — it's a practice assistant, not a private notebook.
What stays on your device
The following is saved on your device only and is never uploaded:
- Practice recordings — audio you record with the microphone is saved in the app's local storage on your phone. It never leaves your device.
- Your app settings and preferences
- Cached copies of your scores for offline use
You can delete recordings inside the app, or clear all local data by deleting the app.
Camera & microphone
Sheetly only uses the camera when you actively scan sheet music, and only uses the microphone when you actively start a practice recording. Neither runs in the background, and you can revoke both permissions at any time in your phone's settings.
Analytics & feedback
To understand which features get used and to fix problems, the app records basic usage events (for example "scan started" or "score played") in our own database. Before you sign up, these events are tied only to a random device identifier; after you sign up they are linked to your account. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and this data is never sold or shared.
If you send feedback from inside the app, we store your message along with your account so we can reply and act on it. If you'd rather not have it linked to you, just email us instead.
Third-party services
Sheetly relies on a small number of service providers to function:
Supabase — accounts & database
Your account, scores, and practice data are stored with Supabase, our database and authentication provider. See the Supabase Privacy Policy.
Google Cloud — scan processing & AI
Scan images are processed on servers hosted by Google Cloud, and the Ask Sheetly coach is powered by a Google Cloud AI model. See the Google Cloud Privacy Notice.
Apple App Store & Google Play — payments
Sheetly Pro purchases are processed entirely by Apple or Google — we never see your card details, billing address, or store account password. We are only told whether your account currently has Pro access. See Apple's Privacy Policy and the Google Privacy Policy.
What we never collect
To be crystal clear, Sheetly does not:
- Show ads, or use any advertising or tracking SDKs
- Sell or share your data with data brokers
- Access your location or your contacts
- Access your photo library, except for images you explicitly pick to scan
- Record audio, except when you explicitly start a recording
Retention & deletion
You stay in control of everything you put into Sheetly:
- Delete individual scores from your library at any time — this removes them from our servers
- Practice recordings live only on your device; deleting them in the app, or deleting the app, removes them permanently
- To delete your entire account and everything linked to it, email hello@trysheetly.com from the address you signed up with and we'll erase it
Your rights under GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area (including Sweden), the United Kingdom, or another region with similar privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- Ask for it to be corrected or deleted
- Object to or restrict how we process it
- Withdraw consent at any time — for example by revoking camera or microphone permissions, or deleting your account
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Sweden: Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY)
To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below and we'll help.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided information to the app, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at the same URL with a new "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's update notes.
